Dance of Time

Description

The sandstone cliffs in Abiquiu, New Mexico are striped red, white, and yellow — their colors a history of the eons. At the base of the cliffs, there are lush farms sprinkled along the river and a harsh desert just a few miles away. A scenic road winds through the valley, edged with descansos (little crosses marking the places where people died in car crashes). Here, the collision of past and present and future is palpable. The three exist not as separate entities, but as an intertwined, simultaneous reality so powerful it can make one dizzy trying to untangle the strands. In quantum physics, the concepts of superposition and entanglement are challenging our understanding of both time and the relationship of particles to each other. A particle can exist in multiple states simultaneously while two particles can share the same fate no matter the distance between them. It seems that does not march here. Instead, it is an intricate dance.
